Towing Away Broken Down Cars
Towing Away Broken Down Cars
There are many reasons to call on a towing service. Recently I had to remove a stranded vehicle that had stalled out at the gas station. After stopping to fill the tank my wife was unable to start the car and continue on her way. Calling me for help I looked over the engine and even though the starter motor was working the engine would cut out after I put the car into drive. Frustrated with the situation I popped the hood to discover the serpentine belt was broken and tangled in the pulleys that operate the alternator, power steering, water pump and air conditioning compressor.
Knowing that the car would be stuck until the motor cooled down enough to remove the belt, I called on a Waukegan towing service to help me move the car from the gas station to the driveway of my house a couple of miles away. Because I had not wanted to leave the car overnight, I arranged to meet the tow truck and have the driver follow me home in the family’s second vehicle. Impressed with the speed at which the Waukegan towing service arrived I was able to have the car taken to my house before dark.
In the morning I was able to take a closer look at the broken serpentine belt and discovered that after becoming tangled around the various pulleys, that the power steering reservoir had been damaged and so had the water pump. Although the car had been operating fine before the incident it was not in the best shape. The cylinders in the engine were sticking and the motor was having trouble going long distances. (In fact I had not trusted the vehicle to go more than 50 miles at any time.) Once I had inspected the damage I quickly realized that it would take a couple of thousand dollars to resurrect the vehicle that was worth only a few hundred dollars at best.
After talking things over with my wife we decided to junk the broken down car and I again called on the Waukegan towing company to come out to my house and take my 15 year old vehicle to the wrecking yard. Once more the tow truck driver was prompt and after pushing the car into the street he hooked it up to the back of the truck and towed it away. It was not easy to let go of the car that had served my family for many years. But it was gratifying to know that instead of pouring money into the problem to fix it I could go out and find a more suitable replacement for our second family car.
